THE WAR PROJECT
THE    WRITE    AND    READ   PROJECT is a major arm of Pen Parables International
INTRODUCTION
The Write and Read project (WAR) is a program of Pen Parables International, a body that is committed to empowering people through knowledge sharing. The project focuses on the promotion of a healthy or wholesome writing and reading culture in Africa.
It is executed by committed people drawn from all spheres of life, with a passion to propagate well- balanced education in Africa. Basically, The WAR Project wages war against ignorance, motivating people to get knowledge by reading.
CORE FOCUS
WRITING AND READING CULTURE
The WAR Project focuses on the art of reading and writing and everything related to it. We believe that knowledge does not only empower, it is life. For many have died, spiritually, mentally and physically because they lack knowledge in some areas.
One of the ways to acquire knowledge in any area of life is by reading, an activity that is fast losing its place to the television, the internet and outdoor recreational activities.
Our goal at The WAR Project is to rekindle people’s interest in reading and writing. Most students only read to pass their exams and acquire certificates. They no longer read to learn, develop their minds and widen their knowledge base. We want to make reading a desirable lifestyle by motivating people to read not only for academic/professional purposes, but also for leisure.
HEALTHY READING HABITS
We are not only passionate about promoting a vibrant writing and reading culture; we are also concerned about the spiritual and moral quality of what people read.
Books and other literatures come in different forms for different motives. Some written works build morals and values, teach self development, solve problems etc, while others focus on the promotion of violent activism, war, crimes, gossip, eroticism, and so on.
What people read becomes an integral part of their thoughts and their thoughts form their words and actions.
We promote wholesome reading that focuses on noble values and not junk.

RURAL NEEDS
Having worked in several rural communities in Nigeria and some African countries, we have discovered that the level of literacy is low due to poverty and poor education standards.
Some parents, though know the importance of formal education, cannot afford to send their children to school. The few that are in school lack basic educational materials like textbooks, notebooks, workbooks, pens, pencils, blackboard, chalk, etc. These are things that their counterparts in the towns and cities take for granted. Infact, most rural pupils and students do not know what a computer looks like; and yet they have varieties of untapped potentials and talents which can only be developed if they are literate.
Knowledge is the key that can help them to discover, recover and maximize their potentials. Hence our passion to help the rural people get knowledge.
CORE TARGET
Young People
Teens
Children

There is no better and more enduring way to start than from cradle. Train up a child in the way to go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. No age is too early to introduce books to a child.
Habits formed and nurtured from childhood usually stick throughout a lifetime. That is why children, teens and youths are our core targets.
However, The WAR Project  also believes that no one can be too old to acquire knowledge. We have some specialized programmes designed to encourage and inspire adults to read.

THE VISION
Empowering People Through Knowledge Sharing
Knowledge works well with wisdom.
Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous; it may be infected knowledge. Infected knowledge is to the human mind what corrupted files are to a computer. The pursuit of knowledge without wisdom can overload the mind and cause personal and societal havoc.
Wisdom is the practical side of knowledge. It shows us what is important, gives proportion to what we know, and enables us to use the knowledge gained skilfully to reach a desired goal.
Putting it more aptly, wisdom is the correct application of  knowledge acquired. The two must work together to produce desired results.
This is a pivotal focus of The WAR Project.
